Xanthan Gum

Xanthan gum is a polysaccharide produced by a process involving fermentation of glucose or sucrose by the Xanthomonas campestris bacterium.  In the pharmaceutical industry, Xanthan Gum is primarily used to retard drug release in tablets (due to its gelling nature and ability to trap the drug within the gel) and is compatible with numerous stabilizers and thickeners.
