Also known as Trisodium citrate, sodium citrate is the sodium salt of citric acid.  Like citric acid, it has a sour taste as well as like other salts a salty taste.   In the pharmaceutical industry it is used to control pH and can be used as an alkalizing agent, buffering agent, emulsifier, sequestering agent, diuretic and expectorant.    Also anticoagulant for blood withdrawal.
